Renowned Buddhist monk, author and respected Dharma teacher Ani Pema Chödrön will give a special lecture on July 18. The teaching will be given in support of Mangala Shri Bhuti, the sangha of its teacher, the esteemed tulku Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, as part of the sangha's Nyingma Summer Seminar at the Phuntsok Choling Retreat and Events Center in Ward, Colorado.
Although tickets to attend Ani Pema Chödrön's public lecture in person have already sold out and are now on the waiting list, registrations are still open to join the live stream of the event.
“Mangala Shri Bhuti is honored to host Pema Chödrön on Thursday, July 18, 2024 for her teaching which will take place during the Nyingma Summer Seminar,” said Mangala Shri Bhuti in an announcement shared with BDG. “Ani Pema will speak on a topic drawn from Mahayana Buddhist teachings. Each year, Ani-la generously donates the funds raised during her speech to support the activities of Mangala Shri Bhuti, the sangha of her teacher, the Venerable Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche.
Mangala Shri Bhuti is a non-profit organization led by Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche and affiliated with the Longchen Nyingtik tradition of the Nyingma lineage of Vajrayana Buddhism. Headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, with centers in Asia, Europe, North America, and South America, Mangala Shri Bhuti offers educational programs and online courses for the study and practice of the path Buddhist.
“Pema Chödrön will deliver this lecture as part of the Nyingma Summer Seminar, a week-long public program that also serves as an important annual gathering for MSB students,” added Mangala Shri Bhuti. “During this program, Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, Dungse Jampal Norbu and Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel teach the Three Yanas of Buddhism. Ani Pema gives her speech on the morning of July 18. If you would like to stay for Kongtrul Rinpoche's talk in the afternoon, you will need to register for this talk.

For those unable to attend the Pema Chödrön live conference in person or online, a recording of the live stream will be made available to all registrants for one month after the event, starting on the 19th July.
“Pema Chödrön is generously donating the proceeds from her Dharma talk at the Nyingma Summer Seminar to provide meaningful support to Mangala Shri Bhuti's activities,” explained Mangala Shri Bhuti. “One of Pema's main teachers is Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche. She spends much of the year in retreat at Samten Ling, one of MSB's three main centers.
Ani Pema Chödrön was born Deirdre Blomfield-Brown in 1936 in New York. She studied with Lama Chime Rinpoche in London for several years and with Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in California. She became a novice Buddhist nun under Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, in 1974. In Hong Kong in 1981, she became a fully ordained nun. bhikshuni—the first American woman to do so in the Vajrayana Buddhist tradition.
Pema Chödrön is the author of numerous books, including: The Wisdom of No Escape and the Path to Kindness (Shambhala Publications 1991), Start Where You Are: A Guide to Compassionate Living (Shambhala Publications 1994), and Don't take the bait: free yourself from anger and other destructive emotions (Shambhala Publications 2007).
