Tergar International, founded by revered Dharma teacher and meditation master Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, has announced an upcoming introductory course “Introduction to the Path of Mahamudra: The Buddhist Practices of Tergar,” which will be livestreamed on September 20.
“Mahamudra is known as a quick path to enlightenment, with powerful methods to help us recognize the true nature of our minds. Traditionally, we embark on this path with what we call ngondro or “fundamental practices”. Tergar’s Path of Liberation program uses core practices as a container while emphasizing the nature of mental practices,” Tergar said in an announcement shared with BDG.
“This webinar is an introduction and overview of these practices and the two paths of the Tergar Path of Liberation: ngondro and Nectar of the Path, a practice composed by Mingyur Rinpoche himself for the Tergar community.
The program includes an overview by Tergar's guides of the Path of Liberation, a guided meditation practice and question-and-answer session, as well as insights into the two paths of the Path of Liberation within Tergar: Nectar of the Path And ngondro.
“Feeling drawn to Buddhist practices but don't know where to start or learn more about the Mahamudra tradition? This webinar aims to demystify Tergar's path to liberation for the curious and to serve as a helpful first step for those who feel ready to embark on this path. »

Mingyur Rinpoche, the founder of the Tergar meditation community, which has centers and practice groups around the world, is a renowned teacher and best-selling author whose books include: The joy of living: discovering the secret and science of happiness (2007); Joyful Wisdom: Accepting Change and Finding Freedom (2009); And Transforming Confusion into Clarity: A Guide to the Foundational Practices of Tibetan Buddhism (2014)
Born in 1975 in the Himalayan region bordering Tibet and Nepal, Mingyur Rinpoche received extensive training in the meditative and philosophical traditions of Tibetan Buddhism from his father, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche (1920-1996), considered one of of the greatest modern masters of Dzogchen, then at the Sherab Ling monastery in northern India. After just two years, at the age of 13, Mingyur Rinpoche began a three-year meditation retreat, then completed a second one immediately afterward, as a retreat master. At age 23, Rinpoche received full monastic ordination.
Mingyur Rinpoche undertook a four-year solo traveling retreat in the Himalayas from 2011 to 2015. In recounting how he came to terms with the realities of his ambition to practice like an itinerant yogi, Rinpoche revealed that he had to facing many personal and spiritual challenges, including, at one point, one's own mortality. Rinpoche described the years he spent wandering the Himalayas as “one of the best times of his life”*.
We work with our own mind, which is both a source of confusion and a source of clarity and contentment. We strive to rid ourselves of misperceptions that keep us stuck in cycles of behavior that don't relieve our dissatisfaction. — Mingyur Rinpoche
