Dharma Online: Tergar Announces Live Webinar with Actor and Martial Artist Jet Li

The Tergar Meditation Community, founded by revered meditation teacher and master of the Karma Kagyu and Nyingma lineages of Tibetan Buddhism Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, has announced that it will host a free webinar on February 1st in which renowned Chinese actor and martial artist Jet Li will share his meditation experiences and speak on the topic “My Meditation Journey with Jet Li: Finding the Ultimate Balance Between Mind and Body.”

“In this intimate and insightful 60-minute conversation, Jet Li will share how his meditation journey led him to greater balance and inner strength, as well as a more conscious and meaningful life,” Tergar International said in a statement shared with BDG. “My Meditation Journey is a light-hearted discussion with a serious message intended to empower, inspire curiosity, and help build self-confidence and joy in the face of life’s challenges. Renowned martial artist, actor, and philanthropist Jet Li shares his journey toward a life of greater peace and well-being.”

Tergar International is a non-profit organization founded by Mingyur Rinpoche with the goal of making the ancient practice of meditation accessible to the modern world. With a global community of meditators and an international network of centers and groups, Tergar is dedicated to helping people from all walks of life discover the joy and benefits of meditation.

“Jet Li, a renowned martial artist, actor and philanthropist, embodies the harmony of mind and body,” Tergar International explained. “Ever since childhood, he excelled in martial arts, achieving national fame in China. His transition to film has brought him international stardom, with iconic roles in Lethal Weapon 4, Romeo must dieet Heroshowcasing his physical prowess and philosophical depth. However, the demanding world of action cinema took its toll. Injuries and health issues forced Li to seek a deeper form of strength, and he eventually turned to meditation and Buddhism. He now advocates this holistic approach, emphasizing the unity of mind and body.

The webinar program includes an interview with Jet Li followed by an open Q&A session for attendees to ask questions. “My Meditation Journey with Jet Li: Finding the Ultimate Balance Between Mind and Body” will be broadcast live at the following times:

Born in Beijing in 1963, Li began studying martial arts at the age of eight, winning his first national championship after three years of training. In addition to his prolific acting career, Li founded the One Foundation after surviving the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. His intention was to nurture a culture of philanthropy in China and introduce a new model of giving to the world by building community and finding ways for people to make micro-donations or give back over time, building on the idea of ​​a global human family.

Li has been studying Tibetan Buddhism since 1997, Jet, under masters such as Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, Lho Kunzang Rinpoche and Khenpo Tsultrim Lodro.

Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, founder of the Tergar meditation community, which has centers and practice groups around the world, is a renowned teacher and best-selling author whose books include: The joy of living: discovering the secret and the science of happiness (2007); Joyful Wisdom: Embracing Change and Finding Freedom (2009); And Turning Confusion into Clarity: A Guide to the Fundamental Practices of Tibetan Buddhism (2014)

Born in 1975 in the Himalayan border region between Tibet and Nepal, Mingyur Rinpoche received extensive training in the meditative and philosophical traditions of Tibetan Buddhism from his father, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche (1920-1996), considered one of the greatest modern Dzogchen masters, and then at Sherab Ling Monastery in northern India. After only two years, at the age of 13, Mingyur Rinpoche entered a three-year meditation retreat, then completed a second one immediately afterward, as a retreat master. At the age of 23, Rinpoche received full monastic ordination.

Mingyur Rinpoche undertook a four-year solitary wandering retreat through the Himalayas from 2011 to 2015. In recounting how he came to terms with the realities of his ambition to practice as a wandering yogi, Rinpoche revealed that he faced many personal and spiritual challenges, including, at one point, his own mortality. Rinpoche described the years he spent wandering in the Himalayas as “one of the best times of my life.”*
